1) What makes a ceremony official in California?
A marriage license!
There are two ways of getting your marriage license-
*Apply during the week to your county’s clerk office before your wedding day
*Do it all together, i.e book a 60 minute appointment on your actual wedding day and you can apply the same day + get married
A MARRIAGE LICENSE:
*Within 90 days of buying your marriage license, say “i do” . As long as it’s within state lines, you’re golden.
*A county clerk, priest, rabbi, minister, judge or civil marriage commissioner will make it official by signing the license.
MAKING IT OFFICIAL:
You will need to bring your marriage license back to the county it was issued in so they can record it and make it official! After that, you can request a copy.
2) When can I have my wedding at the courthouse?
Most courthouse ceremonies take place during the week as the government shuts down on the weekend, but every third Saturday of the month, you are able to get married on a weekend, but this is only at the Kearny Mesa courthouse location.
If you are having an indoor wedding at the Downtown San Diego Courthouse, you can have up to 15 guests.
However, if you are looking to wed outside at the Downtown San Diego Courthouse, you can have as many guests as your heart desires. 3) How much does it cost to get married at the courthouse?
Marriage license: $70
Civil ceremony: $80
Witness (if needed): $18
4) Anything else I should know about getting married at the San Diego Courthouse?
A limited number of ceremonies are scheduled per day so that you and your fiance can enjoy your ceremony as privately as possible!
There is plenty of street parking on Pacific Coast Highway for everyone to fit if you are planning a little bit bigger event. There is also a parking garage located at the Downtown San Diego courthouse.
5) How much does it cost to hire you to photograph our ceremony and portraits?
Weekday Civil Ceremonies = $400
– One hour of coverage
– Sneak peek photos within 48 hours
– 50+ images delivered 4-6 weeks after your wedding
*An hour of coverage is usually perfect to capture your time at the courthouse. If you want to capture any memories before/after the ceremony and would like to add additional coverage beyond an hour, that is an option too! See below to inquire!
